Hidden Gem: Whitman & Bloom

226Tucked away in Murray Hill is an unexpected cozy dinning destination.  You would expect such experience either uptown or downtown. But in midtown east, you have came to expect sports bars and the likes along the avenues.  Knowing that the residents here crave for more, Ronan Conlon, Mark Fox, and Andrew Breslin opened Whitman & Bloom.

Opened in October, this farm house meets library dining room offers a wide range of rustic American inspired menu that is also perfect for a simple night out with good friends. On the menu are also several great dishes like flatbread and charcuterie plate that are perfect for sharing.  The mac & cheese is well worth the calories – that’s a perfect example of comfort food made exquisitely.  While the restaurant may be new, the owners have been long time fixtures in the neighborhood thru ventures such as Banc Cafe and Cask Bar and Kitchen.  They took over this current space order to provide the residents in the neighborhood the dinning experience they seek. They transformed the former sports bar into a classy dining room, lined with books and finished with a fireplace. Now, residents no longer need to venture outside the neighborhood to get a nice meal in a comfortable setting.  As with any of their ventures, their goal is to help improve the neighborhood, and make the person who live across the street happy.

Whiteman & Bloom serves dinners nightly, with a full bar offering happy hours specials.   Menu changes seasonally, and the drink menu offers some must try unique cocktails.   Red Root, made with Brooklyn Gin, beet juice, ginger beer, fresh mint, and simple syrup, served on the rocks is a favorite of the owners and of yours truly.  Patrons also have the choice of having dinner in the downstairs lounge that has that speakeasy feel, with live piano music (currently available Thursday thru Saturday).  Started this weekend, Whitman & Bloom is also offering a brunch menu – fully transforming itself into a neighborhood dining staple.
